AI in Project Management
Introduction
Artificial intelligence is reshaping project management—not by replacing project managers, but by enhancing their ability to analyze information, communicate effectively, and make better-informed decisions.
The December 2025 edition of PMimpact explores how artificial intelligence is moving beyond experimentation to become an integral part of everyday project work. Contributors explore practical applications, ethical considerations, risk management, requirements engineering, leadership, and organizational change, offering a balanced perspective on both the opportunities and limitations of AI.
My Contributions
I contributed two practical articles to this special edition, each exploring how project managers can apply AI responsibly and effectively in their daily work.
AI as a Copilot in Project Management
This article illustrates how generative AI can improve project communication through effective prompt design.
Rather than replacing professional judgment, AI becomes a trusted collaborative partner that helps transform structured notes into clear project reports while allowing project managers to focus on leadership and decision-making.
Smart Risk Management
My second article explores how AI can enhance project risk management by identifying patterns across historical project data, stakeholder feedback, and operational project information.
The central idea is simple:
AI should support reflection—not replace decisions.
Project teams remain responsible for evaluating risks and making decisions, while AI accelerates analysis and improves transparency.
Key Takeaways
- AI is an enabling technology—not a replacement for project managers.
- Well-designed prompts significantly improve the quality of AI-supported work.
- AI enables faster analysis and better project communication.
- Risk management benefits from pattern recognition and data-driven insights.
- Human judgment, accountability, and leadership remain essential.

Looking Back
These two articles marked the beginning of my public exploration of artificial intelligence in project management.
Looking back today, they capture an important stage in the evolution of my work. At that time, my primary focus was on how AI could support project managers in practical, day-to-day situations.
Since then, that perspective has expanded beyond AI tools toward broader questions of governance, strategic decision-making, and organizational effectiveness.
This progression ultimately led to the development of Decision Architecture™—a framework that extends beyond AI by examining how organizations design the systems in which high-quality decisions become possible.
